ON THE HEELS OF "HIZZONER"...

PROP THTR ANNOUNCES WORLD-PREMIERE

On the heels of their smash-hit "Hizzoner" (now taking on a life of its own and moving on to bigger and better things!), Off-Loop stalwarts the Prop Thtr Group announces the first world-premiere of their 27th Anniversary season, SPOKESPERSON by Jeff Whipple. Co-produced with Sliced Bread Productions and directed by Wm. Bullion, SPOKESPERSON opens Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. at the Prop Thtr, 3502 N. Elston Ave. in Chicago. Tickets are $20 general admission, students can pay $10 with valid ID, seniors $15. SPOKESPERSON will run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 7:00 p.m. through June 29th. For reservations and more information, call 773/539-7838. Tickets also available at www.ticketweb.com.

There will be discounted ($10) preview performances of SPOKESPERSON Thursday through Saturday, May 15 and17 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m.

Fresh out of the Prop's New Plays 2007 Festival, Jeff Whipple's SPOKESPERSON is a strange, provocative, hilarious look at the nature of truth in these times of perilous spin. As a spokesperson for a corporate polluter, Candy Lennox's mind slowly unravels as she's confronted by love, dead fish and surreal manifestations of her own lies. Prop Thtr's annual New Plays Festival is produced in conjunction with the National New Play Network (NNPN), of which the Prop is a founding member.

Award-winning playwright and visual artist Jeff Whipple's career has ridden parallel tracks in visual art and theater. He majored in visual art in college but wrote his first stage play during graduate school. Since then he has had 75 solo art exhibitions throughout the USA and his plays have been in 18 productions. He has participated in dozens of group exhibitions across the country and won numerous top awards in art competitions. His plays have won several awards and he is a three-time winner of Orlando's Valencia Character Company's Florida playwriting competition. Jeff Whipple will be using his painterly vision as well in SPOKESPERSON as the Production Designer.

The cast of SPOKESPERSON features Jenn Remke in the title role, Kelly Owens, Gordon Gillespie, MacKenna Murphy, Jonathan Cofield, Gilmary Dolye-Andrews, and Diane M. Honeyman. Lighting design is by Shannon Evans, the Stage Manager is Sloane Spencer and Prop Executive Director Diane M. Honeyman is the show's Line Producer.

SPOKESPERSON will run in conjunction with an art show of Jeff Whipple's visual work, with the Gallery Opening on Saturday, May 24 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by that evening's performance.

Lovers of great, energetic Off-Loop theater are encouraged to... COME GIVE THE PROP A GANDER!
